Why Did 88,000 Sages Ask About Kali Yuga? 🔱

According to the traditional account, 88,000 sages gathered at Prayagraj and were engaged in meditation, penance, rituals, and a sacred observance.

During this gathering, the sages began thinking about Kali Yuga and the difficulties people would face in that age.

They were concerned that qualities such as desire, anger, greed, ego, attachment, and unrighteous behavior would become stronger.

Their concern was not for themselves.

When Suta Mahamuni arrived, the sages asked him an important question.

They wanted to know what could guide people when they became affected by the difficulties of Kali Yuga.

Suta Mahamuni then told the sages about the Shiva Mahapurana.

According to the traditional account, listening to, studying, and following the teachings of the Shiva Mahapurana can help people face the spiritual difficulties associated with Kali Yuga.

The sages recognized the problems that future generations could face, while Suta Mahamuni directed them toward spiritual knowledge and the teachings of the Shiva Mahapurana.

The story is also connected with Prayag, or Prayagraj, the sacred place associated with the Kumbh Mela.

The deeper message is simple.

Human beings may struggle with anger, desire, greed, ego, and attachment, but spiritual knowledge can help guide the mind toward a better path.

The 88,000 sages asked their question for the benefit of people living in Kali Yuga, and Suta Mahamuni presented the Shiva Mahapurana as spiritual guidance for them.
